Abercrombie approves hiring 10 agricultural inspectors

July 11, 2011 – 11:19 pm

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie Wednesday approved hiring 10 agricultural inspectors, restoring nearly 40 percent of the positions that were lost due to layoffs in 2009.

Before the layoffs two years ago, there were 95 agricultural inspector positions statewide in the Plant Quarantine Branch. Out of that total, 78 positions were filled at the time, according to Janelle Saneishi, spokeswoman for the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. The inspectors perform domestic air cargo and maritime inspections, as well as handle import permits for regulated plants, animals and microorganisms.

In 2009, 50 inspector positions were eliminated statewide due to budget cuts, but 22 of those positions were restored shortly thereafter, Saneishi said.

3 Scary Truths About Multi-Tasking (And 5 Ways To Stop)

July 11, 2011 – 12:03 pm

You’ve probably heard the joke about what happens as you get older: “Memory is the first thing to go; I forget what the second thing is.” It turns out memory loss may not be the reason you’re standing in the garage trying to remember why you went out there, or why you spent $200 at the grocery store and neglected to pick up the lettuce you went there for in the first place. LOW CAR INVENTORIES HURT CAR SALES

July 10, 2011 – 1:20 pm

U.S. auto sales probably rebounded in June after a slowdown in May, a recovery limited by shortages of vehicles from Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. that led some would-be consumers to put off buying and car shipping.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

June light-vehicle deliveries may have run at a 12 million seasonally adjusted annual rate. That would be an increase from 11.8 million in May, when sales set the slowest pace in eight months.

Toyota and Honda, having lost production after the 9.0- magnitude earthquake March 11 near Japan, may each report sales declines of 13 percent, while deliveries by U.S. automakers General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. may rise at least 12 percent. Persistent unemployment and a depressed housing market are hurting new-vehicle demand.

The first issue is still going to be inventory and the lack thereof for Toyota and Honda. Read all post…
